Saturday Spam: Orly

Published

on

Happy Saturday! Anyone have fun plans this weekend? Tonight I’m going to the wiener dog nationals…aka dachshund races. It’s pretty much the most adorable thing ever, I suggest looking up some videos on youtube if you’ve never seen wiener dog races before (warning…this will probably lead to hours spent on youtube watching cute animal videos). I’ve always thought about putting Degen in those races but knowing him he’d be that one dog that would turn around and run back to the start…or he’d be that dog that tries to play with the dog running next to him halfway through the race.

Today I have Orly spam for you! These are the only Orly’s I have that I have never posted swatches of before. It’s fun getting my entire collection from a whole brand swatched and posted…I feel like I’m accomplishing something haha! I think I’ll probably do Essie spam next for those of you wondering…but it’s probably going to be a while (I’m a little backlogged right now!)

To see all the swatches please click the read more button below!

Cotton Candy is a light pink with a bit of a peachy tone to it. I love the color of this polish but the formula is troublesome. It’s thick and on the streaky side, I’ve also had issues with it not leveling itself out. I’ve thinned this twice and that makes application easier but it’s one you need to be patient with. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Fantasea is a gorgeous golden/red shimmer in a sheer purple base. This is hands down one of my favorite Orly’s. If you don’t like to layer it’s not one I would recommend though. It takes a lot of coats to be opaque on its own. I really love layering this over black, dark purple, and dark red polishes…the shimmer is stunning! I used 1 coat of Fantasea over Wet ‘n Wild Sea Witch (dark shimmery purple) for the photos below.
Dazzle is a silver foil. This is one of my favorite silver foils, I really like the formula. It goes on easily without and balding or dragging which I get sometimes with foils like this.

Lemonade is a pastel yellow creme. I had the same kind of formula issues as I had the Cotton Candy. Thick & streaky etc.. but I guess that’s par for the course with pastels like this. I used 3 coats for the photos below.
First Kiss is a light peach/pink. I picked this up on a trip to Sally’s when I was staying with my Grandma and needed a polish to put under another sheer color (I didn’t have access to my stash at the time). I do like the formula of this, it’s not streaky but it’s very very sheer. I need 4 coats to get it almost opaque. At that point, it’s good enough for me but you can still see the nail line.

Galaxy Girl is an awesome purple/blue shimmery duo-chrome. This is from the Cosmix FX Collection Orly did a couple of years back…that whole collection was pretty fantastical! The formula is really nice, it looks good at 2 coats but I usually do 3 to get it fully opaque!

Gumdrop is a light blue-green, one of those Tiffany Blue kind of shades. The formula was great, a little thick but I didn’t have any issues with it being streaky.

It’s Not Rocket Science is a murky yellow-green with green glitter. This is only of those verging on ugly polishes that I like…it’s not for everyone though. One of my friends said it looked like fungus when I wore it a while back lol! The formula is really nice.

Nouveau Satin is a dusty grey purple with an awesome pink shimmer. This is an oldie but a goodie, good luck trying to find this if you want it ( I searched eBay yesterday and only saw 1 person selling it in a set). I bought it a couple of years ago at a random beauty supply and have never seen it again anywhere else. I wouldn’t complain if Orly re-released these Satin Hues polishes…there are a few other colors (that sadly I don’t own) and they are all gorgeous.
Luxe is a gold foil. If you’ve read my blog for a while you probably know that I don’t love gold polishes (which makes me wonder why I own this haha). I don’t love this one my skin tone when I wear it alone but it’s great for stamping and nail art since it’s nice and opaque. The formula is pretty outstanding in my opinion. I only needed 1 coat for the photos below!

The formula is on the sheer and watery side but it builds up nicely. I used 3 coats for the photos below. Since this is a satin polish it dries to a satin-matte finish. In the first 2 photos below I do not have a topcoat over it, for the 3rd photo I DO have a topcoat on…it looks exactly the same either way!

Pixy Stix is a medium pink creme. It’s a bit dark but still a bit of pastel. The formula was really nice, not streaky at all for me. I used 3 coats for the photos below.

Snowcone is a periwinkle blue creme. This is from the Sweet Collection that came out in Spring 2010 (along with a few other polishes in this post), it’s my favorite from that collection! The formula is great, it goes on so smoothly!

Shine is a silver foil. It’s exactly the same as Dazzle that I swatched earlier in the post…I’m pretty sure they are the same polish just with different names. Why I own both…I have no idea.

For a little trip down memory lane, I posted a photo of this collection when I got it back in April 2010…it was the 2nd post ever on my blog!  You can reminisce with me here if you’d like to lol!

Winter Wonderland is silvery-white flecks of glitter. I just sat here for 5 minutes trying to figure out how to describe this polish. It reminds me of snow, which makes sense since this was part of Orly’s holiday collection a couple of years back. On its own, this is sheerer than I like wearing. As a layering polish, it’s pretty fantastical. I used 1 coat over Star of Bombay for the photos below.

Star of Bombay is a dark navy with a hidden blue shimmer. The shimmer is one of those really really hidden ones but it’s beautiful out in the sunlight when the sun hits your nail right. The formula is great also.

Orly is available at a bunch of places including Sally Beauty Supply, Ulta, and CVS. The price varies depending on where you buy it!

Color Club Wicked Sweet Collection Swatches

Published

on

Good Morning guys!  Hope you all had a good weekend, mine was boring…I guess that’s good? haha

Today I have for you guys swatches of the first of 2 summer collections Color Club has put for this year. This one is called Wicked Sweet. All of the polishes in this collection are scented, and there are a couple interesting combos, color wise. I have heard that this set is already popping up at Ross and is also available on some etailers like Transdesign.com and VictoriasNailSupply.com (my 2 favorites!)

First up Is Get Your Lem-On. This one was pretty sheer, but the color is fab. I don’t have anything dupey in my stash. It’s a bright highlighter yellow with a green shimmer. On it’s own I needed 4 coats for okay opacity, I could have used another but I’m not down with doing 5 coats of polish lol. I also have it layered over white on my ring finger in the pictures below. Over white I only needed 2 coats, awesome! The only downside to layering it over the white is that it seemed to kill that awesome shimmer, you could still see it but it wasn’t very noticeable 🙁 Get Your Lem-On smells like….you guessed it, Lemon Candy.

The Lime Starts Here is a bright neon green, I do like this color but it’s nothing new we haven’t seen before.  The formula was just okay, for a neon it did well, no dragging bald spotsI Always Get My Man-Darin is a bright orange packed with shimmer! I have a lot of orange in my stash, but again nothing like this one. The formula on this was pretty much exactly the same as Get Your Lem-On, very sheer. On it’s own I used 4 coats and 2 coats over white on my ring finger.

Saturday Spam: Lynnderella

Published

on

Hi guys, hope you’re all having a good weekend so far…I sure as heck am, more on that tomorrow! Today I have a big helping of spam for you….this spam is all Lynnderella! I’ve been waffling on posting this because for the past few months Lynnderella=drama. The drama associated with it turns me off the brand so I had decided not to post pictures of what I have. Then I kind of tested the waters in my Indie spam post with 1 Lynn polish and everyone liked it, so I decided what the heck I’ll just post everything I have that I haven’t shown before in one post. Hope you guys enjoy!

If you want to buy Lynnderella polishes it’s a bit of a process…you have to send in a wish list to Llarowe then wait for your last name to come up in her rotations. I think the 1st rotation of wish lists is still going on so depending on your last name you could be waiting for like 4-5 months, it wasn’t too bad for me but I know some people are frustrated with the wait. I know the waiting sucks but I do like that at least you get everything you want eventually. It’s worth it just to avoid the mad dash of trying to get things before they sell out in .5 seconds during re-stocks. Right now Llarowe is not accepting wish lists but last I heard she would be taking them again soon-ish.

To see lots of glittery goodness click the Read More button below!

Alright guys…I’m just going to tell you what I layered these over (for most of the polishes) instead of writing a little novel about each! Hope ya don’t mind!

Boy Girl Party over Zoya Ginessa. FYI there is diamond shaped glitter in this…LOVE!!

Very Pretty Vampire over OPI Black Onyx. I actually really don’t love this combo but I was losing daylight so I couldn’t re-do it. My favorite way to wear VPV is over purple!

piCture pOlish New Collaboration Shades: Siren Song, Geode, Douceur & Imperial

Published

on

Hi guys! Today I have 4 of the 5 new collaboration shades from piCture pOlish to share with you! These were released a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t wait for them to show up at my house. I always love the collaboration shades, it’s fun to read the posts of the girls who created the shades plus I usually feel like these are shades I want too but don’t already own.

Douceur is a light nude/beige base with fuchsia glitter mixed throughout. This was a collaboration with Tartofraises somehow I had never heard of her blog but since getting her shade I’ve been over there looking through her posts and she does really beautiful nail art! To read her post about the shade check out her blog here.  The formula was good, it was more opaque than I expected it to be and it wasn’t streaky at all.

Imperial is a super vibrant purple with a heavy blue shimmer and gold glitter. This is a collaboration with Jeanette of The Swatchaholic. I was so excited to see this one, Jeanette is a blogger that I’ve become friends with over the last couple years and I had no doubt that if piCture pOlish ever collaborated with her it would be gorgeous. Well, let me tell you Imperial is insanely gorgeous…this is one of my favorite collaboration shades ever and will most likely be a favorite for 2013 for me. I wore it all of last week and was sad to take it off.

Imperial is super vibrant, more so in real life than it appears in photos, I’m also dying over the stunning blue shimmer in this. I loved how the shimmer was visible in the sun and didn’t disappear in the shade.  If you want to read about how Jeanette came up with Imperial and see her beautiful photos of it check out her blog here. The formula was good, it was nice and opaque…I had no issues with application. This does dry a bit matte due to the neon pigment in it.

Siren Song is a sea foam green with a silver flecked shimmer. This is a collaboration with Rebecca Likes Nails. This shade was inspired Fender guitars & bass guitars by Mark & Tom from Blink 182. Ah yes…now that’s my kind of inspiration I love me some Blink 182 and have seen them live several times throughout the years…even stood in like for like 6 hours about 10 years ago to meet them (now I feel old btw). I love the shimmer/glitter in this. It’s bigger than shimmer but smaller than micro glitter…it’s interesting! To read more about the inspiration and naming of Siren Song check out Rebecca’s post here. The formula was good, it was a bit streaky on the first coat but perfect with the second coat.

All of the new Collaboration shades are available on the piCture pOlish website, along with at their network of etailers all over the world like LlaroweHarlow & Co and Nail Polish Canada. For a full list of etailers all over the world check out the piCture pOlish website here.
