OPI Katy Perry Collection Swatches & Review

Published

on

Hey all, happy last day of 2010! What a way to end the year here on my blog, with a collection that I’ve been looking forward to since the first time I heard about it. OPI has teamed with Katy Perry for this collection, I love this…Katy always has great nails in my opinion. She is one of the few celebs that I look forward to seeing on the red carpet just to see her nails! The Katy Perry Collection consists of 5 new polishes, one of them being Black Shatter…a crack polish!

First up is Not Like The Movies, a silvery green and light purple duochrome. There is a bit of silver glitter thrown in for good measure. This polish was a bit sheer but I really liked the look of it after 2 coats. It did however show brushstrokes in the sun, but that doesn’t really bother me. The formula was good, a little thin for my taste but it was not hard to apply.

Teenage Dream is packed with small hexagon and round pink and iridescent glitter in a light pink base. The glitter in this polish was very dense so the formula is a bit thick, you might want to thin it…I probably will for the next time I use it. Despite the thick formula it was easy to apply and control. Teenage Dream was a lot more opaque that I thought it would be, you can see a bit of visible nail line but it’s not too noticeable. This polish is gorgeous!

Last Friday Night is a sibling of Teenage Dream, small hexagon and round blue and iridescent glitter in a light blue base. The formula was the same as Teenage Dream, thick but easy to work with. Last Friday Night was unfortunately not as opaque as I had hoped. I was a bit let down by this on it’s own, it’s gorgeous but it shows more visible nail line than I am personally comfortable with. I have high hopes for this as a layering polish. Also, just wait till you get to this under Black Shatter it’s my favorite combo!

The One That Got Away is a glass flecked fuschia…it’s incredible! I actually thought this would be my least favorite, but wouldn’t you know it turned out to be my surprise favorite of the collection!! The formula on this was just wow, perfection…seriously. The polish flowed so nicely, it practically applied itself. I love the color and finish of this, the glass flecks really do something special here. It’s pretty great under Black Shatter also.

Alright now the one I know we are all looking forward to. When I got home last night and found this package waiting for me I ripped it open as fast as I could and went off to play with Black Shatter. Can I just say that I am SO happy that the US polish companies are all climbing on this crack/shatter polish trend…I love it! Please OPI, make this in more colors I am begging you! Below I have it layered over each of the polishes from the Katy Perry Collection, check back tomorrow for tons more options!

Some tips for applying Black Shatter:

** Make sure you have enough polish on the brush to cover your entire nail. Black Shatter dries incredibly fast and if you have to dip the brush back in the bottle to pick up more polish it makes the effect look funky.

** Your base color must be completely dry, it does work if the base polish is a bit tacky but the effect isn’t as good in my opinion.

** If you want a realllly shattered look apply a thin coat, it will crack/shatter more. If you want less of that effect use a thicker coat.

Color Club Wicked Sweet Collection Swatches

Published

on

Good Morning guys!  Hope you all had a good weekend, mine was boring…I guess that’s good? haha

Today I have for you guys swatches of the first of 2 summer collections Color Club has put for this year. This one is called Wicked Sweet. All of the polishes in this collection are scented, and there are a couple interesting combos, color wise. I have heard that this set is already popping up at Ross and is also available on some etailers like Transdesign.com and VictoriasNailSupply.com (my 2 favorites!)

First up Is Get Your Lem-On. This one was pretty sheer, but the color is fab. I don’t have anything dupey in my stash. It’s a bright highlighter yellow with a green shimmer. On it’s own I needed 4 coats for okay opacity, I could have used another but I’m not down with doing 5 coats of polish lol. I also have it layered over white on my ring finger in the pictures below. Over white I only needed 2 coats, awesome! The only downside to layering it over the white is that it seemed to kill that awesome shimmer, you could still see it but it wasn’t very noticeable 🙁 Get Your Lem-On smells like….you guessed it, Lemon Candy.

The Lime Starts Here is a bright neon green, I do like this color but it’s nothing new we haven’t seen before.  The formula was just okay, for a neon it did well, no dragging bald spotsI Always Get My Man-Darin is a bright orange packed with shimmer! I have a lot of orange in my stash, but again nothing like this one. The formula on this was pretty much exactly the same as Get Your Lem-On, very sheer. On it’s own I used 4 coats and 2 coats over white on my ring finger.

Saturday Spam: Lynnderella

Published

on

Hi guys, hope you’re all having a good weekend so far…I sure as heck am, more on that tomorrow! Today I have a big helping of spam for you….this spam is all Lynnderella! I’ve been waffling on posting this because for the past few months Lynnderella=drama. The drama associated with it turns me off the brand so I had decided not to post pictures of what I have. Then I kind of tested the waters in my Indie spam post with 1 Lynn polish and everyone liked it, so I decided what the heck I’ll just post everything I have that I haven’t shown before in one post. Hope you guys enjoy!

If you want to buy Lynnderella polishes it’s a bit of a process…you have to send in a wish list to Llarowe then wait for your last name to come up in her rotations. I think the 1st rotation of wish lists is still going on so depending on your last name you could be waiting for like 4-5 months, it wasn’t too bad for me but I know some people are frustrated with the wait. I know the waiting sucks but I do like that at least you get everything you want eventually. It’s worth it just to avoid the mad dash of trying to get things before they sell out in .5 seconds during re-stocks. Right now Llarowe is not accepting wish lists but last I heard she would be taking them again soon-ish.

Alright guys…I’m just going to tell you what I layered these over (for most of the polishes) instead of writing a little novel about each! Hope ya don’t mind!

Boy Girl Party over Zoya Ginessa. FYI there is diamond shaped glitter in this…LOVE!!

Very Pretty Vampire over OPI Black Onyx. I actually really don’t love this combo but I was losing daylight so I couldn’t re-do it. My favorite way to wear VPV is over purple!

piCture pOlish New Collaboration Shades: Siren Song, Geode, Douceur & Imperial

Published

on

Hi guys! Today I have 4 of the 5 new collaboration shades from piCture pOlish to share with you! These were released a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t wait for them to show up at my house. I always love the collaboration shades, it’s fun to read the posts of the girls who created the shades plus I usually feel like these are shades I want too but don’t already own.

Douceur is a light nude/beige base with fuchsia glitter mixed throughout. This was a collaboration with Tartofraises somehow I had never heard of her blog but since getting her shade I’ve been over there looking through her posts and she does really beautiful nail art! To read her post about the shade check out her blog here.  The formula was good, it was more opaque than I expected it to be and it wasn’t streaky at all.

Imperial is a super vibrant purple with a heavy blue shimmer and gold glitter. This is a collaboration with Jeanette of The Swatchaholic. I was so excited to see this one, Jeanette is a blogger that I’ve become friends with over the last couple years and I had no doubt that if piCture pOlish ever collaborated with her it would be gorgeous. Well, let me tell you Imperial is insanely gorgeous…this is one of my favorite collaboration shades ever and will most likely be a favorite for 2013 for me. I wore it all of last week and was sad to take it off.

Imperial is super vibrant, more so in real life than it appears in photos, I’m also dying over the stunning blue shimmer in this. I loved how the shimmer was visible in the sun and didn’t disappear in the shade.  If you want to read about how Jeanette came up with Imperial and see her beautiful photos of it check out her blog here. The formula was good, it was nice and opaque…I had no issues with application. This does dry a bit matte due to the neon pigment in it.

Siren Song is a sea foam green with a silver flecked shimmer. This is a collaboration with Rebecca Likes Nails. This shade was inspired Fender guitars & bass guitars by Mark & Tom from Blink 182. Ah yes…now that’s my kind of inspiration I love me some Blink 182 and have seen them live several times throughout the years…even stood in like for like 6 hours about 10 years ago to meet them (now I feel old btw). I love the shimmer/glitter in this. It’s bigger than shimmer but smaller than micro glitter…it’s interesting! To read more about the inspiration and naming of Siren Song check out Rebecca’s post here. The formula was good, it was a bit streaky on the first coat but perfect with the second coat.

All of the new Collaboration shades are available on the piCture pOlish website, along with at their network of etailers all over the world like LlaroweHarlow & Co and Nail Polish Canada. For a full list of etailers all over the world check out the piCture pOlish website here.
