Essie 2011 Fair Game Resort Collection Swatches

Good Morning guys, back to the grind for most of us I’m guessing. It is for me…ugh! At least it’s a short week!

Today I have for you guys Essie’s Resort Collection for 2011 called the Fair Game collection. I’m guessing from the names that it’s an African Safari theme! I was stalking my Ulta for this but ended up finding/buying it at a local independent beauty supply. I have heard of some people seeing it at Ulta recently though!

First up is Da Bush a light murky sage green. Love this one, are we surprised? nope! Very reminiscent of Stranger Tides from the Pirates of the Caribbean Collection from OPI, I will have a comparison of the 2 later this week! The formula was pretty good on this one, I used 2 coats on most nails but some needed 3 coats to even everything out!

Lion Around is a light pink, kind of a dusty rose color with a silver pearly shimmer running throughout. I’m not sure how I feel about this one. Sometimes I would look down at my hands and go WOW I really love this because the shade of pink was very flattering on my skintone…then other times I would look down and see something verging on a frost and was like ick. On a very positive note, I really liked the formula on this, I used 2 coats and it dried really quickly! Sometimes I have problems with Essie drying on me so that was a nice change!

Fair Game is a gunmetal gray with a multicolored shimmer. I have to say, I don’t really care for this one. It leans a little too frosty for me. The color and shimmer are pretty but it just doesn’t do it for me. The formula was great again, I used 2 coats and like Lion Around it dried really quickly!

Your Hut Or Mine *swoon* this polish is so fab, I love it! It’s a kind of dusty dark pink with a beautiful shimmer. Easily my favorite of this collection, I don’t have anything like it in my collection! If someone had told me last year that a collection would come out and the pink in it would be my favorite I would have died laughing…but here it is folks, it’s happened haha! I was trying so hard to get that pretty shimmer to photograph but it’s not coming out as amazing as it looks in real life, if you click on the pictures you can see it better! Great formula again, I used 2 coats for full opacity!

OPI Serena Williams Grand Slam! France Swatches

Good Morning guys! Welp, I saw Scream 4. It was a good mix of terrible and awesome, I laughed probably more than I should but I definitely had a couple good jump out of my chair moments. I give it the Jen stamp of approval! In other news, in case you haven’t heard, Zoya is doing their polish exchange again this year. I jumped for joy when they posted about it yesterday! It goes until the 27th and all the deets can be found on their blog

! It’s a bit different than last year and the price has gone up just a tad, $4 per bottle vs. the $3.50 it was last year…still an amazing sale. I love Zoya for giving us great promotions like this! I may have made an order of 13 polishes yesterday….eeek! Anyway…

Today I have for you the 2 new sets from the Serena Williams Grand Slam! Collection. These two new duo packs are launching in conjunction with the French Open which happens in May. They include 2 great new polishes along with 2 new shatters, Red and White!

First up is the set that contains Rally Pretty Pink and Red Shatter. Rally Pretty Pink I have pretty much been dying to see in real life since the promo photos. Guess what….it’s even better in person! If you liked the polishes from Zoya’s Sunshine Collection you will LOVE this polish. Rally Pretty Pink is a purple toned pink with golden shimmer like whoa! The golden shimmer gives this a bit of a duochrome look, which you guys know I love! The gold shimmer is amazing in the sun, I see myself getting a lot of wear out of this during this summer! The formula was great, a little sheer after the first coat and great after the second coat, if I was wearing this on it’s own I would probably do 3 coats but it’s not necessary if you are putting shatter over it. Rally Pretty Pink dries to an almost foil like finish, which I’m not usually a huge fan of but I  really enjoy it with this polish, I guess given the color I will like any finish except maybe super frosty but ya never know! I used 2 coats of Rally Pretty Pink for the photos below.

Shade….look at that gold! gorgeous!

Red Shatter is the companion to Rally Pretty Pink, I have to admit when I saw these in the little box together I didn’t think they would pair very well together but I was wrong! Red Shatter over Rally Pretty Pink is fab! That golden shimmer in Rally Pretty Pink was so sparkletastic that you could see it through the shatter, it looks great! You can see it a little bit in my picture, it’s much more visible in real life. I’m looking forward to using Red Shatter over a ton of colors. I really love it, it was easy to use and cracked wonderfully. It dries matte, like most crackle/shatter polishes. I used a top coat for the photos below.

Shade

The second set be released in May consists of Spark De Triomphe and White Shatter. Spark De Triomphe is a mix of silver and gold glitter, there is a good mix of small round glitter and small hex glitter.  This was like blindingly sparkly in the sun, I was surprised any of my pictures actually came out not blurry! This seemed thick in the bottle but once I gave it a good roll between my palms it was easy to work with and not thick at all. This is a full coverage glitter, but I bet it will be a great layering polish also! I used 3 coats for full coverage, it did look good at 2 coats also but I could see a bit of VNL. Below is 3 coats of Spark De Triomphe.

White Shatter comes in 2nd set along with Spark De Triomphe. I found that this one did not shatter as well as Black Shatter and Red Shatter did on my first try. I will need to play with this one a bit and am already thinking of combinations I will try! Even though i’m not completely happy with the shatter effect the first time I did find that it was easier than China Glaze Crackle to work with. I get a lot of questions about which of the crack/shatter collections I prefer and now that I have tried more than just Black Shatter I think it’s safe to say that I prefer the OPI formula! Below is White Shatter over Spark De Triomphe

So what do you guys think? Will you be picking any of them or even all of them up?

Glam Slam! France will be available beginning May 2011 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $14.95 ($20.95 CAN) suggested retail for each duo-pack.

OPI Blue Shatter Collection Swatches!

Hi guys, I was going to post this tomorrow but thought oh what the heck I should just post it today! Get all the new OPI out for you before the weekend! In addition to the 3 new shatters from the Pirates and Serena Williams Collections OPI is also giving us a little collection of 3 shades of blue Shatters!

These all shattered really well, even the shimmers. Color me impressed! I really love all 3 but I think Blue might be my personal favorite! I love the shimmer in that one. I’m pretty sure it’s the favorite in my entire household. My Mom is rocking it on her fingers and toes right now and my Dad is also wearing it on his big toes LOL!

Navy Shatter over OPI Skull & Glossbones…please ignore the fail nail that is my ring finger I was trying to be all fancy and try it diagonal. It would look awesome if I didn’t apply it like such a nightmare on that nail lol.

Close up!

Blue Shatter over OPI Steady As She Rose

Close Up for the shimmer!!

Turquoise Shatter over OPI Mermaid Tears

More Shimmer!

All 3 shatters over China Glaze Sexagon…I actually wore this combo to work today and really love the look. I might do skittles like this again one day! From L-R Turquoise Shatter, Navy Shatter, Blue Shatter

The PolishAholic: NOTD: Royal Unicorns!

Hi guys! Happy Saturday! I’m getting a late start today, I think I made up for all the sleep I missed during the last few weeks last night. I fell asleep around 7pm last night then woke up around 11pm and did a few things and went back to sleep until 9 this morning! I love when I catch up on sleep like that! I had some weird dreams too, like being on dancing with the stars, except there were no stars….instead it was a bunch of my nail blogging friends. It was a very strange dream, and I got voted off 2nd…you would think I would at least win in my own dream haha.

In other funnies that only lacquerheads will appreciate, my Dad came home this morning with 2 of his toe nails painted. He goes with my Mom every couple weeks and gets a pedicure…usually he just gets clear polish but today he came home his big toes painted gold with BLACK CRACK POLISH over it hahahaha. I don’t think I have laughed so hard in a long time…I’m not kidding when I say I have turned my Dad into a bit of a PolishAholic! It was so cute when he got home, he was so excited to show me. I wish all my mornings started off with cute funny things like today! I was going to post the picture of his toes, but I know some people have feet issues so if you want to see below is a link to the picture. I would have loved to see how the conversation at the nail place went down when he asked them to do this….he said all the girls there thought it was funny!

Alright onto quite possibly my favorite mani I have ever worn. I’ve had this one for 3 days now and I’m pretty sad to take it off so I can swatch stuff today. On Wednesday night I finally picked up Revlon Royal….I’ve picked up and put down that polish countless time but finally bought it off the recommendation of Kari from Once Bitten! Royal is amazing, eventually I will swatch it on it’s own. It’s a gorgeous dark blue jelly. I put it on and was about to put on my top coat and be done when I saw my bottle of Clarins 230 sitting on my desk…so naturally I had to see what it would look like over Royal. Let me tell you, it’s amazing. If I could only have 1 mani for the rest of my life I think I would pick this.

This is 2 coats of Revlon Royal topped with 2 coats of Clarins 230. Most of these pictures were taken under the craptastic lighting at work…any mani that looks this good under that kind of lighting is a total win in my book!

I think this one was taken in my car lol

The PolishAholic: Revlon Sunshine Sparkle

Good Morning guys! I went to Target last night and guess what they carry now? Orly! I thought maybe I was just blind and had never seen it before so I said something about it on Twitter and no one else had ever seen it either so I’ve decided it must be new! They had an okay selection, a bunch of core colors and they were $6.99 a bottle. Target is really starting to impress me with their polish selection. Weird how in the last couple of months they gotten brands that have never been available there before, first Essie and Sinful Colors…now Orly. I wonder what’s next!

Today I have for you guys one of the polishes from a Summer 2011 Revlon display I found at Rite Aid last week. The colors in the display are fab and consist of a shimmery yellow, shimmery blue and shimmery orange. I picked up the yellow and blue, I wanted that orange SO bad but am kind of glad I passed after using the other 2 over the weekend. The yellow I’m showing you today is called Sunshine Sparkle. It’s a sunny yellow, a bit muted…not super bright. In the bottle it has a gorgeous shimmer and it did translate onto the nail but not as strongly as I had hoped for. I do really enjoy the color even if the shimmer wasn’t as wow as I hoped for. And that people is where my love affair ends with this color. The formula was horrible, a streaky nightmare. I know yellow is a pain but this was by far the worst I’ve ever personally tried. I needed 5 coats to even this sucker out. Then after all that hard work…bubbling. You can’t see most of the bubbling in my picture except for 1 giant bubble on my middle finger…but trust me it was there. I probably won’t be posting the blue from this collection, it was even worse. I didn’t even take pictures of it when I wore it, that’s how bad it was.

I have to say, I’ve only tried 5 Revlon polishes in my entire life. Out of those 5 only 2, Perplex & Royal, have had a decent formula…the other 3 have been nightmares. I probably won’t buy another Revlon polish unless the color is something great. I am so disappointed with these 2 summer ones I bought! 🙁

Below is 5 coats of Sunshine Sparkle

See…there is that shimmer. Sparse, but there!

On Stranger Tides Collection Swatches!

Good Morning guys, happy Friday!! Today I have for you guys another new collection from OPI, The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Collection which is also serving as the Spring 2011 Brights Collection for OPI. I’ve been pretty stoked about this since I heard about the theme, I’ve been a big Pirates fan forever, seriously. Pirates of the Caribbean was always one of my favorite rides at Disneyland since I was litte! Gotta say, I love them for making movies because the addition of the Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow figurine thingys they added into the ride are awesome! I kinda want to go to Disneyland now! I, like most of you I’m sure, was like o.O when I first saw promo for this and all the colors were pastel looking, pirates and pastel are just not something I would put together but I really love the collection…the shades are light but also kinda dirty (in a good and awesome kinda way) so it works.

We’re going to start with my personal favorite of the collection, Stranger Tides. This one is a light murky grayed out khaki green…totally up my alley. It was a bit sheer and patchy going on, use a light touch with this one! I used 2 semi thick coats for full opacity on most fingers but there were a couple nails that needed a 3rd coat to even everything out.

Skull & Glossbones is another murky looking color, a grey with a hint of brown. I feel like this has been a shade that we’ve seen a couple times already this year, but I still like it! The formula was good, the first coat looked very sheer but it was perfect after 2 coats.

Steady As She Rose is a very light lilac, looks like maybe a hint of grey to dirty it up a bit! When I saw this in the bottle it reminded me of Nice is Nice from Essie’s Spring collection but it is a lot lighter and not even close for those wondering. This was a bit sheer and streaky at first, I used 3 coats to even everything out.

Mermaid Tears is a dusty jade green. Love this on and the name! Even if I didn’t like the color I’d probably pick it up for the name only, I’m weird like that. Formula was great I used 2 coats for full opacity.

Guys, for once a comparison I don’t have to promise then get to weeks later. I always have the best intentions of doing comparisons but life and new collections get in the way. Usually I have to go through my entire stash looking for possible dupes of things but I happened to have Orly Ancient Jade already sitting on my desk! Ancient Jade came out with Orly’s Precious Collection for Spring this year and was one of my favorites. Guess what…Mermaid Tears is very very dupey to it. Ancient Jade is the slightest bit darker but it’s not very noticeable. The main difference is the formula, the Orly is a bit thicker and I can get away with using 1 coat. If you have one you don’t really

need

the other, in my opinion.

Sparrow Me The Drama (best named polish in the collection right?!?) is a dusty rosy pink. Normally something I don’t give a second look but ended up really loving…go figure! The formula was great, I used 2 coats for full opacity.

Planks A Lot is a very dusty purple creme. Another one of my favorites from the collection. Great formula again, it went on so smooth and creamy…I love that! I used 2 coats for full opacity!

Now, probably the most anticipated part of this collection…Silver Shatter!!! I layered it over a few things and it looks fantastic over all of them. Formula was great and the shatter looks awesome. I was a bit worried after the pain in the rear that was the purple shimmery crackle polish from China Glaze’s Crackle Collection. I thought maybe sparkly crack polish just wasn’t meant to be. OPI proved me wrong! Please OPI, make more of these sparkly shatters I am blown away by how fab this looked and need more!

Silver Shatter dries a bit matte, I used a top coat over it for all of these photos. It’s still very sparkly without a top coat but more sparkle is always a good thing!

Silver Shatter over Sparrow Me The Drama

Silver Shatter over Stranger Tides

Silver Shatter over Planks A Lot

Silver Shatter Skittles! I wanted to see Silver Shatter over some darker and bolder colors also, it’s much more in your face in the best way possible!

From left to right Silver Shatter is layered over the following polishes: OPI Thanks So Muchness, OPI Suzi Skis In The Pyrenees, OPI Ogre The Top Blue, OPI Don’t Mess With OPI

What do you guys think? This might be my favorite complete collection OPI has done in a long time, I love that the colors are understated and a bit murky there isn’t one polish that I don’t like. Silver Shatter is to die for!

This limited-edition Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides collection will be available beginning May 2011 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for  $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) suggested retail for each Nail Lacquer.
