Cult Nails- My Kind of Cool Aid

Hi everyone! Today I have for you the very first polish from a brand new brand called Cult Nails. The wonderful lady behind this brand is a fellow blogger,  Maria, who you may know from the blog

R3 Daily

. We’ve been hearing about Cult Nails from Maria for a little while so it’s so exciting to finally get my hands on a bottle!

I have to say I am loving the name Maria chose for her brand, it reminds me of one of my favorite bands, Bayside. Most of their merch says Cult on it, they use that because they have a cult like following with their fans…Bayside is a Cult. All of the Cult Nails polishes are Big 3 Free, cruelty free and Vegan friendly. Right now only My Kind of Cool Aid is available for immediate shipping but due to popular demand you can buy all 3 Spring colors and the next 2 polishes will ship to you as soon as they are ready. I have to say, I can’t wait for that package to arrive Living Water & Iconic look freaking amazing, a blue jelly with green glitter and a red with flakies!! I would highly suggest you run over to CultNails.com and place your pre-order now!

My Kind of Cool Aid is a purple/grey polish with a subtle shimmer. This kind of polish is so flattering on not only my skin tone but I think you’d be hard pressed to find a skin tone that this looks bad on. The formula was top notch, 2 coats for full opacity. I really love the brush also, it’s easy to work with. It’s not one of those really wide ones that is sometimes difficult to use if you have a small nail bed, but it’s also not skinny…it’s just right!

Look at that pretty shimmer!

Some layering with an old OPI & Kleancolor- Firework

So, I decided last night to try and add something to Essence-Forever Mine that I had on yesterday…on it’s own Forever Mine was kind of boring. I decided to try out an old black label OPI I found at CVS of all places. My Aunt, cousin and I stopped in there on Thanksgiving to buy crayons and coloring books (yep, that’s what we did on Turkey day, colored and played Trivial Pursuit!). I went over and browsed around CVS’s cosmetics section to see if they had the new Milani display. Instead I found a random OPI display with some of the colors from the Swiss collection and a few old black label shades. This was the only one that called to me, partly because my cousin Michelle said it looked like pee lol. I didn’t notice until I got home and really looked at it that it is full of pretty pink and green glitter (which unfortunately I couldn’t get to photograph *sad face*) Below is 1 coat of OPI- That’s All Bright With Me over Essence Forever Mine.

That wasn’t enough whoa for me so I added Kleancolor- Firework on top for some more sparkles. Now, this Kleancolor I picked up last week…it looks like some sort of disease in the bottle so duh…I had to buy it. I was hoping it would be one of those ugly pretty polishes. I can’t decide if I like it or not, I will need to layer it over more colors before I make that decision I guess! Below is 1 coat over Essence- Forever Mine and OPI- That’s all Bright With Me. Now after typing this I fully have that Katy Perry Firework song stuck in my head…noooooo

Sephora by OPI Shiny Dancer

Good Morning! I can’t wait for tonight! I’m going to a concert! New Found Glory to be exact, and at a tinnnnny venue. I am so excited! They have been one of my favorite bands for over 10 years now so it will be fun to see them in such a small club as opposed to where I have seen them live before…in arenas & large clubs like the House of Blues. I kind of can’t believe it’s mid February and this is only my first concert of the year. I go to a lot of concerts, or at least I used to. A couple years ago my cousin and I went to something like 75 shows in 1 year, concerts are pretty much my other obsession. It got to the point where the guy who books the shows at the venue I’m going to tonight knew us by name and would talk our ears off when we would go to buy tickets for shows lol. Lucky for my wallet the music scene kind of sucks right now so I’m not going to very many shows.

Alright, so today I have for you guys Shiny Dancer from the Urban Ballerina collection from Sephora by OPI. I was waiting and waiting for this…stalking my Sephora. Finally they got it! Glad to say, I am not disappointed! Shiny Dancer is a gray and silver metallic polish with a very strong blue undertone. I love it! The formula was great! No complaints here!

I used 2 coats of Sephora by OPI Shiny Dancer for the pictures below.

Cult Nails Captivated vs Icing Tiger’s Blood

Good Morning guys!! Today I have a comparison for you! When I posted Captivated from Cult Nails the other day Mia commented that it looked similar to Icing Tigers Blood. I had Tiger’s Blood siting in my untrieds so I pulled it out and was stunned by how similar they looked!

Icing Tiger’s Blood is one of the 3 polishes Icing recently started carrying that have funny Charlie Sheen sayings as their names (the other 2 are Epic Winning and Rockstar from Mars). Once I got these 2 polishes on I couldn’t really tell a difference between them! The Cult Nails polish might have a bit of a redder base but in person it wasn’t a difference significant enough to see, my camera picked it up more than my eyes did! The formula was very much the same on both…thick but not terribly hard to work with. Both could benefit from thinner, I just haven’t gotten around to adding any yet!

The major differences between these two polishes are price and availability. Cult Nails retails for $10 a bottle and ships pretty much everywhere while Icing retails for $4.50 a bottle but is only available in Icing stores which I believe are in the US and Canada only. I’ve seen some people trying to find these Charlie Sheen polishes at Claire’s but they are Icing exclusives!

I used 3 coats of each polish for the photos below. The lighting is overcast sun, we’ve been having some major June gloom here lately 🙁

Big thank you to Mia for the suggestion of comparing these two!

The PolishAholic: This mani is awesomesauce!

Good Morning guys! Hope you all had a good night! Sorry for the lammmmmme title, I couldn’t think of what to call this post! Today I have for you guys another splatter mani, you tired of these yet? This one is by far my favorite, I don’t know that I could do anything to top this.

CND Effects are probably some of my favorite polishes I own…this manicure is the exact reason why I love them so much. I had the idea for this combo running around in  my head for a few weeks but was scared to do it because I was worried it would be a HUGE fail, I was wrong! I don’t even know how to describe this mani…it looks like one of those pictures you see of galaxies reallllly far away…but way more awesome! I wish a company would bottle something like this up and sell it, something that flashes ALL of the colors that I got here. Maybe CND can mix all of these effects together and make like a super effect or something lol! I used OPI Black Onyx as the base. The splatter is CND Sapphire Sparkle, CND Teal Sparkle, CND Crimson Sparkle and CND Amethyst Sparkle.

All of the effects should be easy to find online with the exception of Teal Sparkle since it was an LE effect with the Urban Oasis duo. Also, I updated the tutorial post with some info about the straws I use to do these mani’s. I got a lot of questions about them! There is a link to the tutorial over in the sidebar!

This post is pretty pic heavy, I loved all the pictures too much to get rid of very many of them lol!

The PolishAholic: Butter London Dosh

Hi guys! Today is Degen’s birthday! I was planning on taking him to this cute restaurant in Huntington Beach called the Park Bench Cafe…it’s super cute they have a whole dog menu, you can even have dog birthday parties there haha. It didn’t work out for today though, so hopefully next weekend I can take him. He loves going there…funny story with this place too. A few years ago we took him there and saw another lady with a Dachshund. Hers was a bit younger than Degen but they had identical faces, it was so creepy! We ended up going over and talking to her and it turned out that her dog was from the litter after Degen, same doggie parents. No wonder they looked so freakishly alike lol. Small world, huh! So since we didn’t go there Degen got a birthday cupcake from a cute doggy bakery called The Barkery (lol). We took him over there on Friday and got him a few other goodies too plus some new toys. Since I don’t have real kids I spoil my dog!

Anyway for today I have for you guys my first ever Butter London in Dosh. I’ve been eyeing Butter London polishes for a while now, but they are kinda pricey. I finally decided to buy one, I have since gotten 2 more (thanks to an awesome Planet Beauty/Groupon deal, I love Groupon!). Alright so Dosh is a weird green color, my favorite! It’s kinda greenish yellow with a bunch of shimmer, really loving this…I’m a fan of colors like this. They aren’t for everyone though, my friend commented that it looked similar to the slime used on Nickelodeon back in the day. The formula was great, I’m hoping all of their polishes go on as nicely as this one did! I used 2 coats of Butter London Dosh for the pictures below!

The PolishAholic: Essence Studio Nails: Drama Queen

Good Morning guys! Today I have for you guys one of the Essence Studio Nail designs. These just recently started showing up at Ulta’s around here.

Before I get to talking about them I have to rant for a moment about the horrendous Ulta cashier that checked me out when I bought these. I was at the register buying these (and all the other Studio Nails from Essence) along with a Nail Fraud package that was on clearance. The girl comments on the Essence stuff and I say how I’m excited to find them, they are so cheap blah blah blah. Then the girl goes into a big old speech about nail decals are HORRIBLE for your nails and how it destroys your natural nail when you remove them. My, I’m standing there with a horrified look on my face going o.O. Just to clear up any confusion about decals like these ones from Essence, Nail Fraud, Sally Hansen etc… they do not damage your nails when you take them off, unless perhaps you are not taking them off correctly. I kind of wanted to smack that stupid girl at Ulta for spreading lies like that. If you’re going to go on a rampage about how awful something is at least do some research and see if there is any truth to what you are telling people./rant

So back to what’s today’s post is actually about lol! These Essence Studio Nails just landed at Ulta, they retail for $2.50 each  and there are 6 designs to choose from. The design I have for you today is called Drama Queen. It’s colorful, I like it! I did have a few issues with these. I had trouble getting them to smooth out, no matter how much I tried I could not get rid of some of the wrinkles and bubbles 🙁 You can see my issues in the pictures. Despite that I really do like these, especially for the price! I should mention though that if you have large (wide) nail beds these might not work for you. There were 2 options for the thumb and both were too small for my nail bed (and I have small nail beds!)

Also, in case you haven’t seen this on another blog yet…Zoya has a brand new collection out for pre-order today! The Touch Collection, consists of 3 nude shades with a slight shimmer! I can’t wait to get my hands on these!

The PolishAholic: JadoreNoirCosmetics Swatches pt. 2

Hi Guys! Good Morning! Who’s excited for the Grammy’s tonight? meeeeeee! I only watch for the performances! I think Lady Gaga is performing, looking forward to seeing her do

Express Yourself

 Born This Way! ha!

Today I have for you guys part 2 of my JadoreNoirCosmetics etsy shop review!  You can purchase all of these on the JadoreNoirCosmetics etsy shop in cute little duos for $4.50. Each bottle of polish is a mini bottle, which I think is pretty great for someone like me who will probably never get through a full sized bottle of polish! If you missed part 1 you check it out here.

First up for today is the 3D duo. My absolute favorite duo out of any that I tried!

Multi Mess is black glitter and a ton of holo glitter. This one is amazing! I posted a little video of the awesome inside this polish on my twitter the other day and a lot of you seemed to like it, so I included the video below. The picture below does no justice to this, which is why I did the video! The formula was thick, all of the polishes are, but it’s due to the dense glitter! They are all very easy to work with and they build up beautifully!

This is 3 coats of Multi Mess

And for the first time ever, a little movie to show the awesome that the camera cannot capture in a photograph. Hopefully this works!

video

Night is the companion polish to Multi Mess, it’s got a lot more black glitter with just a bit of holo glitter sprinkled in! It looks a bit sheer in my picture but I think that’s just the macro on my camera, in person it wasn’t like that!

This is 3 coats of Night.

Next up is the Royalty Duo!

Crown is a mixture of gold & black glitter with the slightest hint of holo in there! I love this one! I really don’t think I have anything similar!

This is 3 coats of Crown

Gold Digger is the second polish in the Royalty Duo, it’s packed with gold glitter! Usually I can’t do golds like this, they don’t work with my skin tone but this one was pretty flattering!

This is 3 coats of Gold Digger

Last up is the Unicorn Duo…I love Unicorns haha!

Dream is a blue, pink & purple glitter bomb with holo glitter mixed in. This one was more sheer than I expected, I could have done with another coat but it didn’t look this sheer in person!

This is 3 coats of Dream

Last up is Mystical, it’s got the same color combination of glitter as Dream minus the holo! The coverage on this was a lot better!

This is 3 coats of Mystical

*products in this post were sent to me for review*

Serena Williams Grand Slam! England Swatches!

Good Morning guys, happy Thursday! Thank god it’s almost Friday, for a short work week this one sure felt long! Tonight I’m going to a concert, my cousin Michelle and I are going to see Forever The Sickest Kids and Anarbor. Michelle likes Forever The Sickest Kids and I’ve been dying to see Anarbor live for like 2 years so it should be a good time even though I will probably be the oldest one there lol!

Today I have for you guys the 3 new polishes that make up the 2 new duo’s OPI is putting out with Serena Williams for the Grand Slam! England.  The first duo contains Grape…Set…Match and Servin’ Up Sparkle and the second duo contains Your Royal Shine-ness and Servin’ Up Sparkle. I guess Servin’ Up Sparkle was just so fantastical that OPI wanted to give it to us twice haha!

First up is Grape…Set…Match. This polish is so full of win, I love it. I think I need a back up, or 5! This polish is packed with purple, blue and pink micro glitter/shimmer in a red toned purple base. The most dominant glitter is the purple but the blue and pink are pretty noticeable out in the sun and indoors! In the shade and indoors this turns into a bit of blue/purple/pink multichrome. It’s not a super strong multichrome but I didn’t have to struggle to see it! Pretty much, this polish rules. The formula was great, I used 3 coats for full opacity! The pictures below are clickable if you want to see more of the sparkle!

Macro (shade)

Servin’ Up Sparkle is small round and large holographic hex glitter in a clear base. It’s awesome. It was a little thick but not hard to work with. it was nice and easy to get a lot of glitter in the nail with 1 coat! Now, in no way does this picture do any kind of justice to how great Servin’ Up Sparkle is…it was the best that my camera would take…but I have a video below that shows the sparkle better!

Alright, here is the video. It’s short and sweet. My camera was flat out refusing to focus but I think it actually works out since you can see just how sparkly this is with it being a little blurry. In person it looks amazing. If you like glitter top coats it is a must have! Just FYI Grape…Set…Match is not color accurate in the video, it looks pretty dark and blueish for some reason (at least on my monitor it does!)

Your Royal Shine-ness is a dark silver foil and comes in the second duo along with Servin’ Up Sparkle. I do like this polish but I have a few like it already so I’m kinda meh about it. The formula was great, I do love a good foil polish and this is definitely one of them. I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Shade

The set with Grape…Set…Match is an absolute must have if you like purple…heck even if you don’t like purple you might like that one. It’s awesome. I would pass on the other duo with Your Royal Shine-ness unless you don’t already have a silver foil!

Glam Slam! England will be available beginning June 2011 at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $14.95 ($20.95 CAN) suggested retail for each duo-pack.
